How to add tracking to an Amazon FBM order
The order is confirmed as shipped in Seller Central, carrying the carrier, service and tracking number from the label you bought.
Checked against Amazon's Fulfilled by Merchant page on September 13, 2026.
Before you start
- The label already bought and printed, with the tracking number to hand.
- The carrier name and the exact service you paid for, not a near match.
- Seller Central access to Manage Orders.
- The parcel handed to the carrier inside your stated handling time.
Steps
-
Open Manage Orders in Seller Central
Sign in to Seller Central and open Manage Orders, which is where Amazon tells sellers to "review it, confirm shipping, and provide tracking information".
You should see the orders that are not yet confirmed as shipped.
-
Open the order you are shipping
Find the order in the list and open it to confirm the shipment.
You should see the shipment confirmation for that order.
-
Enter the date the carrier took the parcel
Give the day the parcel was handed over, not the day you printed the label.
-
Give the carrier name from the label
Enter the carrier that issued the number, not the shipping app you bought it in.
-
Give the shipping service you paid for
Enter the service printed on the label, not a near neighbour with a similar name.
-
Enter the tracking number exactly as printed
Type or scan it straight off the label, with no spaces.
-
Confirm the shipment
Submit the confirmation to Amazon.
You should see the order confirmed as shipped and out of the unconfirmed list.
If it goes wrong
- "Please enter a valid tracking ID to confirm shipment."
Amazon checks what you type. Since 3 May 2021, "Amazon will validate tracking details (including carrier name and tracking ID) for all seller-fulfilled orders, and show warnings for invalid tracking details." Read the number off the label again, then the carrier, then the service.
- Your carrier is not in the list
Amazon's instruction is to "set the carrier code as 'Other' and then provide the carrier name in the carrier-name field". Hand delivery uses the same route: "If you deliver an order by hand, you can choose Other as the carrier."
- You entered the wrong number
Amazon's guidance is narrow: "If you make a mistake when entering the tracking details, be sure to update the correct tracking ID within 24 hours of the order being shipped."
What happens next
This order now counts in Valid Tracking Rate, which Amazon requires you to keep above 95% over a rolling 30 days. Your own label still counts, as long as the carrier is integrated with Amazon and the carrier name, service and tracking ID all match.
What the label does not buy is cover: "To be eligible for A-to-z claim protection, you must purchase the shipping label through Amazon Buy Shipping, ship on time (considered the moment of the carrier's first scan), and respond to any customer inquiry in Buyer-Seller Messaging within 48 hours." SAFE-T reimbursement carries the same Buy Shipping condition.
Buy the label here, paste the number there
We do not connect to Amazon, so the tracking number goes back into Seller Central by hand. The label side is what we take off you: USPS and UPS priced side by side on one screen, weight from your saved product presets or typed once, and the tracking number sitting on the confirmation ready to copy. For a whole morning of orders, import a CSV or paste rows into The Workbench, part of Pro, and print one merged PDF.
Related questions
Yes. Confirming the shipment takes a carrier, a service and a tracking number that you supply, and the bulk shipping confirmation feed has a carrier-code field for the same purpose. What changes is protection, not permission: A-to-z claim protection and SAFE-T reimbursement both require a Buy Shipping label.
Not by itself. Amazon asks you to "Select carrier options that are integrated with Amazon" and to "Verify that the carrier name, shipping service, and tracking ID you enter all match and belong to the same integrated carrier". A USPS or UPS number entered against the service you bought counts.
Amazon asks you to "update the correct tracking ID within 24 hours of the order being shipped".
The shipping date you enter is a statement about when the carrier took the parcel, and on-time is measured from the carrier's first scan. Amazon's own instruction is to "confirm shipment within your stated handling time".
