Checked against Walmart's guide to updating tracking numbers in Seller Center on September 13, 2026.

Before you start

  • The correct tracking number, read off the label rather than an email.
  • The purchase order number of the order to fix.
  • The knowledge that the window closes on the first carrier scan, so this comes before anything else today.
  • Seller Center access to the Orders page.

Steps

  1. Open the Orders page in Seller Center

In Seller Center, open the Orders page.

  2. Open the order by its purchase order number

Find the order by its PO# and select the purchase order number link.

You should see the order's details, with the item listed.

  3. Open the item's actions

Select the three horizontal dots next to the item.

You should see the actions available for that item.

  4. Select Enter new shipping details

From the menu, select Enter new shipping details.

  5. Enter the correct carrier and tracking number

Set the carrier that issued the number, then type the number itself.

  6. Select Update shipping

Select Update shipping to save the change.

You should see the corrected number on the order.

If it goes wrong

"the tracking number doesn't match the selected carrier or the required format"

Walmart's wording: "If you received an error after adding a tracking number, this means the tracking number doesn't match the selected carrier or the required format." Fix the carrier before you retype the number, and strip spaces and dashes.

The window closed on a scan, not on the clock

"After marking the order status Shipped, you can edit the tracking number for up to 24 hours or until the carrier first touch scan is received in the Walmart system, whichever is earlier." A counter drop-off can end it inside the hour.

You relabelled the parcel

A new label means a new number, and Walmart requires it: "If you relabel a package with a new tracking number, you must inform us of the new tracking number."

What happens next

Once the window has closed, the number on the order is the number Walmart validates against, and the miss lands on Valid Tracking Rate, which has to stay at 99% or above. The drivers Walmart holds sellers accountable for cover exactly this case: "Invalid tracking ID", "No carrier scan" and "Misleading tracking". The buyer is the other half of it, so send the correct number through Walmart's customer messaging rather than leaving them watching a number that never moves.

The number comes off the label, not out of your head

Wrong numbers are usually transcription. Buy the USPS or UPS label here and the tracking number is displayed with the carrier it belongs to, in one place, so what you paste into Shipping details cannot drift from what is on the parcel. Batched orders keep that pairing per row in The Workbench, part of Pro.

Create a label

"Up to 24 hours or until the carrier first touch scan is received in the Walmart system, whichever is earlier." In practice the scan usually arrives first.

The edit route is closed. Tell the buyer the correct number through Walmart's messaging, and expect the order to be counted under Valid Tracking Rate drivers such as "Invalid tracking ID".

Because the number does not match the carrier you selected, or does not match that carrier's format. Walmart also rejects special characters and any number that equals the purchase or sales order number.
