How do I combine eBay orders from the same buyer?
If the buyer has not paid, set combined shipping rules in Shipping Preferences, enable combined invoices, then select the orders and send one invoice. If they already paid separately, ship the items together and return the shipping difference as a partial refund. Each eBay order still needs tracking, so put the same number on every order in the box.
Before the buyer pays: one invoice
This is the clean case. eBay can price several unpaid orders as one shipment if you have told it how. The rules live in Shipping Preferences, and combined invoices have to be enabled for the Send Invoice action to offer the combined total.
Open Shipping Preferences and set your combined shipping rules.
Enable combined invoices in the same place.
In Seller Hub, go to Orders and select the unpaid orders from that buyer.
Choose Send Invoice and check the shipping total on the combined invoice.
Send it, and the buyer pays once for the whole group.
After the buyer pays: refund the difference
Once each order is paid there is no invoice left to combine. eBay's route here is a partial refund: ship the items together and give back the shipping the buyer paid twice.
Work out what one package would have cost, subtract it from what the buyer actually paid in shipping, and refund that amount against one of the orders. Tell the buyer in a message, because the refund arrives without much explanation attached to it.
Orders that cannot be combined
Some purchases are excluded from combined shipping no matter how your rules are set. If one order in the group is on this list, ship it on its own label and combine the rest.
| Excluded | Note |
|---|---|
| PSA Vault items | Handled outside your own shipping |
| Local pickup | Never enters the carrier network |
| Authenticity Guarantee items | Routed through authentication |
| Best Offer purchases | Price agreed outside the combined flow |
| Some international items | Depends on the programme the listing uses |
One box, several orders, and the tracking
Combining the money does not combine the orders. Each order is still evaluated on its own for handling time, late shipment rate and tracking uploaded. So the same tracking number goes on every order that travelled in that box, inside handling time. eBay's own tool for this is the bulk shipping tool: select the orders in Seller Hub, choose Purchase Shipping Labels from the Shipping dropdown, and tick Combine orders per buyer.
An eBay order can hold up to 6 tracking numbers, and the same number can appear on more than one order.
Key takeaways
- Combined invoices have to be enabled in Shipping Preferences before you can send one.
- After payment there is no invoice to combine, so the discount is a partial refund.
- Every order in the box needs the tracking uploaded, not just the first one.
- Some items cannot be combined at all, including local pickup and most Authenticity Guarantee items.
We find the combinable orders, you decide what to refund
Connected eBay orders land in The Workbench within minutes, and orders going to the same destination address are grouped for you, so you see the pair before you buy two labels. Buy one label for the group and the same tracking number and carrier post back to every order in it, which marks each one Shipped and emails the buyer. We do not create eBay combined invoices or issue the partial refund: that stays in Seller Hub, where eBay keeps the money flow.
Related questions
Usually because combined invoices are not enabled, or because there are no combined shipping rules to price the group with. Both live in Shipping Preferences. Check also that every order in the selection is unpaid and from the same buyer, and that none of them is in an excluded category such as local pickup or a Best Offer purchase.
No. You can still put everything in one box. What you cannot do is rewrite what they already paid, so the shipping saving goes back as a partial refund on one of the orders. Ship the package, upload the same tracking number to each order, then issue the refund and message the buyer so they know what it is.
Not if every order in the box gets its tracking. eBay measures late shipment rate and tracking uploaded per transaction, so an order left without a tracking number counts against you even though its contents shipped on time. Upload the shared tracking number to all of them within handling time and each one is covered.
You can set the pricing rules, which is the part eBay automates. Combined shipping rules in Shipping Preferences decide what a multi item purchase costs, and combined invoices let the buyer pay that total in one go. Whether two separate paid orders end up in one box is still your packing decision.
