Depop how-to

How to avoid a Depop 10 day auto-cancel

Before you start

  • The date of the sale, not the date you packed it
  • A tracked service you can buy the same week
  • The tracking number in hand before day 10

Steps

  1. Read the sale date off the receipt

Depop's rule is that "If you don't add your tracking info to the receipt within 10 days of the sale, your order will be canceled and the buyer will be refunded". Day one is the sale.

  2. Set your own deadline earlier

Work to day 5 or 6. That leaves room for a weekend, a supply run or a missed collection without touching Depop's limit.

  3. Buy a tracked service

Depop requires tracked shipping on your own method, so an untracked stamp leaves you with nothing to enter and the cancellation goes ahead.

You should see a tracking number as soon as the label is bought.

  4. Add the number the day you buy the label

Mark the order as shipped and enter the tracking number, even if the parcel goes to the counter later that day.

You should see the order marked shipped, with the number on the receipt.

  5. Optional: Tell the buyer if the item is delayed

Send a message with the new date. It does not move Depop's clock, but it is what stops a buyer opening a case at day 7.

If it goes wrong

Depop refunded the buyer after you shipped

This is the 10 day rule, not a dispute. With no tracking on the receipt the order cancels regardless of the parcel being in the network, and you are left recovering it or claiming from the carrier.

Counting from the drop-off

The clock runs from the sale. A sale on the 1st with a drop-off on the 9th leaves one day, not ten.

Waiting to enter the number until you are sure

There is no correction path: "You won't be able to amend the tracking information once added". Read the digits off the label, then enter them straight away rather than holding the entry back.

What happens next

Once the number is on the receipt the cancellation risk is gone, and the parcel is on you until delivery. Depop Protection covers sellers "who ship using a Depop Shipping label" up to $300 in the US and excludes anything sent another way, so keep the drop-off receipt: it is the proof of shipping Depop asks for when a buyer says the parcel never arrived.

Buy the label the day the order lands

Rate USPS and UPS for the parcel and buy the label from your gold balance, so the number exists days before Depop's limit. Sellers working several orders at a time can import a CSV or paste rows into The Workbench, which is part of Pro, and buy in one pass. Weight comes from your saved product presets or from what you type once.

Buy the label

Tracking has to be on the receipt within 10 days of the sale. Depop cancels the order and refunds the buyer if it is not.

Depop documents the cancellation and the refund, not a reversal. Contact the buyer, keep your drop-off receipt, and take the parcel up with your carrier if it goes missing.

No. The 10 days run from the sale whatever you and the buyer agree, so treat the message as courtesy rather than cover.

Yes, and on a tight deadline that is the safer order of events. The number exists as soon as the label is bought.
