How to set Discogs seller terms for shipping
Your Seller Terms state a shipping timeframe buyers can read, so the four-calendar-day default is not the one you are held to.
Checked against Discogs Seller Policy on September 13, 2026.
Before you start
- An honest count of the days between payment and handing a parcel over.
- A decision on who pays return shipping, which Discogs requires you to state.
- Your seller settings open at discogs.com/settings/seller.
Steps
-
Open Seller Terms in your seller settings
In your Discogs account, open Seller Terms in your seller settings.
You should see your terms as buyers read them on your profile page.
-
State the number of days you take to ship
Write the count in plain words. Discogs requires that you "clearly state the number of days it takes to ship an order once payment is received".
You should see a stated timeframe in place of Discogs' four-calendar-day default.
-
State who pays return shipping
Say which side pays. Discogs warns that "failure to state information about return shipping will result in You paying for return shipping".
You should see return costs settled in writing before a return happens.
-
Ship and set Shipped inside your stated timeframe
On each order page, use the green button below the order table to set Shipped within the days you stated.
You should see the order in Shipped before the buyer's cancellation right opens.
-
Answer order-page questions within 4 days
Reply to buyer questions on the order page rather than by outside message.
You should see every thread answered inside the window Discogs requires.
If it goes wrong
- The clock starts at Payment Received
Discogs: with no timeframe in your Seller Terms, "the buyer may request a cancellation due to Item Unavailable if the order is not shipped within four (4) calendar days of the date the order status is updated to Payment Received." Calendar days, so a weekend counts.
- The answer rule carries a suspension risk
Discogs states that "You will respond to buyer questions left on the order page within 4 (four) days. Failure to do this, may result in suspension of Your account." This is the harsher of the two 4-day rules and almost nobody writes about it.
- An extension has to be on the order page
Discogs allows the requirements to be extended "if the Order Page indicates that You and the buyer mutually agree to a shipping timeframe extension". An agreement over email does not count, and off-platform communication carries its own suspension risk.
What happens next
A stated timeframe replaces the 4-calendar-day default, so state one you can hit in your slowest week rather than your fastest. Once an order is late the remedy is the buyer's: a cancellation request for "Item Unavailable", which Discogs says the order should then be cancelled under. Discogs does not mediate shipment disputes, so your terms and the order page are the whole record.
Make the timeframe easy to hit
Most missed windows are a label bought late, not a parcel packed late. Price USPS and UPS in our app the day the payment clears, print, and set Shipped with the tracking number the same evening.

Discogs applies four calendar days from Payment Received, after which the buyer may request a cancellation for "Item Unavailable".
Four days on order-page questions, and Discogs says failing that may result in suspension of your account.
Yes, if the order page shows it. Discogs recognises an extension the two of you mutually agree there.
No. Discogs does not mediate shipment disputes, which is why the status, the tracking number and the order-page thread all matter.
