How to fix a wrong tracking number on Etsy

Before you start

• The order completed less than 3 days ago
• The correct tracking number, read off the label itself
• Seller access to Shop Manager

Steps

1. Find the completed order

   In Shop Manager, select Orders & Shipping, then select the Completed tab.

   You should see the orders you have already marked shipped, newest first.

2. Open the order you got wrong

   Select the order to open it.

   You should see the shipping details, with the carrier and number you submitted.

3. Open the edit field

   Select Edit tracking.

   You should see the carrier list and the tracking field, both editable.

4. Correct the carrier, then the number

   Change the carrier first if it was wrong, then replace the tracking number. Read the new number off the printed label rather than from an email.

5. Save the correction

   Select Save.

   You should see the corrected number on the order, and the buyer's order page updated.

If it goes wrong

"The tracking number is already in use for this order."

Etsy is telling you the number is on that order already. If you are trying to add a second parcel rather than fix a typo, use Add a package instead, which keeps both numbers.

Edit tracking is not on the order

It appears on completed orders only, and only inside the 3 day window. An order still in the New tab is corrected by completing it properly, not by editing.

The window has closed

Etsy offers no field after 3 days. Send the correct number in an Etsy Message so the buyer has it in writing, keep the receipt from the drop-off, and leave the old number in place.

What happens next

The buyer sees whatever number is on the order, so an uncorrected one reads as a parcel that never moved and invites a Help with Order request. Answer any such request within 48 hours, because Purchase Protection requires it, and the cover runs up to $250 per order. Valid tracking, not an Etsy label, is what keeps the order eligible.
