How to pick an Etsy ship date you can hit
The date on the order is the day the carrier actually takes the parcel, so your on-time record matches reality.

Fix your real cutoff first
Write down the latest hour a parcel can leave your bench and still reach the carrier that day. Everything else on this page depends on that one number.

Convert the cutoff into Eastern Time
Etsy reads the ship date in Eastern Time. On the west coast that moves a late afternoon drop-off into the following Etsy day, which is how sellers post a date they never met.

Open the completion panel on the order
In Shop Manager, select Orders & Shipping, open the order and select Complete order.
You should see the Ship date field at the top of the panel.

Enter the day the carrier takes it
Set Ship date to the day the parcel reaches the carrier, not the day you printed the label.
You should see the shipping fields ready for the carrier and the number.

Use the look-ahead only when the parcel is booked
Etsy accepts a date up to 3 days ahead. That is for a collection already arranged, not for a box you still have to pack.

Optional: Check the parcel moved
The next morning, open the tracking and confirm the carrier has scanned it. A date with no scan behind it is the pattern buyers open cases about.
If it goes wrong
- Completing orders in a batch on Monday for a Tuesday run
Every order gets Monday's date unless you change the field. Set the date per order, or complete the batch on the day the parcels actually go.
- A buyer agreement does not move the date
Nothing in a message changes what Etsy measures. If the order will miss its processing time, tell the buyer and expect the metric to record it anyway.
- The date is locked once the window closes
The carrier and the number can be edited for 3 days. Do not rely on that window to rewrite history: fix the date at the point you complete the order.
What happens next
Two things read this date. Star Seller counts "95% of orders ship on time, with valid tracking or a shipping label purchased on Etsy (when required)" (help.etsy.com, checked 13 September 2026). Purchase Protection needs the order shipped inside your processing time, and pays up to $250, so a padded ship date is also a claim you may not be able to make.
Buy the label on the day it goes
Rate and buy the USPS or UPS label at the point the parcel is packed, so the date you type into Etsy is the day the carrier gets it. Sellers who work in batches can bring the day's orders into The Workbench, which is part of Pro, and buy in one pass before the cutoff. Weight comes from your saved product presets or from what you type once.
