How to prove delivery on an eBay sale over $750

Before you start

• The order total, before you buy anything.
• A label from a carrier eBay integrates with.
• Signature confirmation added while you are buying the label, not afterwards.
• The buyer's address exactly as eBay sent it, including the zip code.

Steps

1. Check the order total against the $750 line

   eBay's Money Back Guarantee expects signature confirmation on orders of $750 or more.

   You should see a clear answer on whether signature confirmation is required for this sale.

2. Add signature confirmation while you buy the label

   Choose it in the label purchase. It cannot be added to a label that is already printed.

   You should see signature confirmation printed on the label itself.

3. Ship inside your stated handling time

   Hand the parcel over so the acceptance scan lands inside the handling time you published.

4. Open Paid and shipped in Seller Hub

   In Seller Hub, open Orders, then Paid and shipped, and find the order.

   You should see the order waiting for its tracking number.

5. Select the order by checking the box next to it

   eBay's tracking steps start with the order selected.

   You should see the box ticked and the order actions available.

6. Open the tracking control

   With the order selected, select the Dispatch dropdown menu, then Add tracking number.

   You should see fields for the shipping carrier and the tracking number.

7. Pick the carrier and type the number

   Choose the carrier you bought the label from, then type the tracking number.

   You should see the number entered against the right carrier.

8. Select Save

   Save the tracking number on the order.

   You should see the order showing as shipped with the number attached.

9. Check the delivery record when it lands

   eBay's proof of delivery expects a delivery status and date plus a recipient address whose zip code matches the delivery address.

   You should see a delivery record you could paste into a case without hedging.

If it goes wrong

Signature cannot be added after the label prints

It is bought with the label. On a sale of $750 or more, printing first and thinking about proof later is the mistake that costs the whole order.

The zip on the delivery record has to match

eBay's proof of delivery expects the recipient address on the carrier record to carry a matching zip code. A buyer who asks you to redirect the parcel is asking you to give up your proof.

The scan has to beat the latest estimated delivery date

eBay expects integrated-carrier tracking uploaded to eBay with a scan before the latest estimated delivery date. Uploading a number after that date does not retrofit the protection.

What happens next

With the label, the scan and the upload all in place, eBay's seller protections apply as written: "If you ship an item within your stated handling time, and you upload tracking before the estimated delivery date from one of eBay's integrated shipping carriers that shows evidence of successful delivery, you won't be responsible for refunding the buyer" (eBay seller protections, checked 13 September 2026).

The same upload feeds Top Rated, which needs at least 95% of transactions with tracking uploaded within handling time and validated by the carrier.
