Pick lists and packing slips for every order

Select the orders you are packing and print a pick list, by item to pull stock in one pass or by order to pack box by box, plus a packing slip for each order. Every slip carries the order number as a barcode; a scan finds that order. Free for orders from a connected eBay store; Pro in The Workbench.

Do you need printed pick lists at all?#

A pick list is the sheet you pull stock with; a packing slip travels in the box (Pick list or packing slip? covers the difference). Paper is worth printing when it removes a mistake you actually make.

Skip the paperwork when

  • Each order is one item you can find without looking it up.
  • You pack alone, a handful a day, buying each label as you pack.
  • Every sale ships on the marketplace's own label, as Poshmark and StockX sales do.

Print them when

  • Several orders want the same item, and one shelf visit should do.
  • Orders have several lines, and a missing piece becomes a case.
  • Someone else packs and needs to check each box.
  • A label has gone on the wrong box before.

Print the pick list once the day's orders no longer fit in your head, and the slips once someone else is packing.

Which pick list: by item or by order?#

Select the orders you are packing and pick the layout, by item or by order: by item for the pull, one trip per shelf however many orders want the item; by order for the bench, one box at a time. Both show the quantity the buyer ordered.

Packing slips that go in the right box#

One packing slip for every order, with no prices, so it can go in a gift order. The buyer's note prints at the bottom, where you see it before the box is closed.

For connected eBay orders, every slip prints as one letter PDF. In The Workbench (Pro), once the labels are bought, labels with slips comes out label, slip, label, slip on a 4x6 thermal printer.

Sample print step in The Workbench: the run's 4x6 labels, each followed by its packing slip, as one PDF.

Scan the slip, then print the label#

The barcode on a slip and on the by-order pick list is the order number, so a scan finds that order. You print the label for the box in your hand, and labels never get out of step with boxes.

  1. Buy the labels for the orders you are packing.
  2. Print the pick list and pull the stock.
  3. Pack each order against its slip.
  4. Scan the slip's barcode before you close the box.
  5. Print that order's label and stick it on.
Connected eBay orders
Free. With scan to print on, scanning a shipped order's slip or tracking number opens its bought label in the print dialog; otherwise a scan selects the order.
The Workbench (Pro)
The same, for a batch from a file or a paste.
It never buys
Scanning reprints a label already bought. A code matching no order, or several, prints nothing and says why.

Then make one USPS SCAN form for the USPS parcels, so the stack is scanned in one go at handoff.

A phone camera or a USB barcode scanner#

Both read the Code 128 barcode of the order number; what happens next depends on the device.

iPhone and Android
The camera reads it, and the matching order still waiting to ship opens, ready to buy its label: scan, buy, print.
Web, USB scanner
No camera reader, and no buy screen. A USB barcode scanner selects an order waiting to ship, or with scan to print on opens a shipped order's label. Any scanner that reads Code 128 and ends with Enter will do.
No # in the code
Left off, because a scanner on a non-US keyboard layout often types # as something else.
No barcode at all
For an order number with a space, or under three characters: no scanner could send it intact.
Check the pick before the box is closed

On connected-store orders, scan each item as it goes in, by its product barcode or a SKU label, and the order ticks off line by line; an item with no barcode is confirmed by hand. Free; sending checked orders to The Workbench is Pro.

Orders from a file get the same sheets#

Orders from a CSV, Excel export or paste print pick lists and packing slips too, built from each row: order number, address, SKU and quantity, with your return address as ship-from. A row with no SKU gets no item lines, so map those columns. Printing labels from a CSV covers which.

That is how Etsy orders get slips: no Etsy connection, so they come in on Etsy's own sold-orders file, with tracking added back in Etsy by hand.

Poshmark and StockX sales, and Vinted prepaid-label sales, ship on the app's own label, so they never reach the list or get a slip from us.

Pick list and packing slip questions#

Select the orders on your connected eBay store's orders in I'd Ship That and print packing slips: one letter-size PDF with a slip for each order, free. In The Workbench (Pro) you can also print each 4x6 label followed by its own 4x6 slip.

Yes. The by-item pick list puts one line on the sheet for each SKU, in SKU order, with the total quantity to pull across every selected order and the orders that want it. Items with no SKU are listed by their title.

No. A packing slip shows your business or store name, the order number and its barcode, ship to and ship from, and each line with its SKU and quantity. It never prints prices, so it is safe to send in a gift order.

A Code 128 barcode of the order number, without a leading #. It is on every packing slip and on each order's block in the by-order pick list. Scan it with a phone camera in the app, or with a USB barcode scanner on the web.

Yes, with a USB barcode scanner, which types the code and presses Enter like a keyboard. On the web a scan selects the order, or with scan to print on, opens a shipped order's bought label; it never opens the buy screen. The camera reader is only in the iPhone and Android apps.

No. Scan to print reprints a label you have already bought for that order. Buy the labels first, then scan each slip as its box is packed and print the label that comes up.
